Daniel Evan Thorne

With solemn hearts, we announce that Daniel Evan Thorne Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend entered into eternal rest in San Diego, CA on Friday, April 10th at the age of 93. He was born in Baxter, WV on November 16, 1932, the son of the late Walter and Pearl Robison Thorne. He attended Baxter Elementary School, Rivesville Junior High, and graduated from Rivesville High School in 1950. Dan proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was also a 32nd degree Mason. He was a hard worker and ran several successful businesses throughout his life.

He moved to San Diego, CA in 1961 and lived there most of his adult life. Dan was fortunate to be married to two wonderful women during his life: Patricia (Patty) Kretoski (1952–1986) and Diane Baker Jernigan (1990–Present). He was a loving father, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his two children Debra (Jeffrey) Richter of Carson City, NV and Daniel Jr (Mary) Thorne of Valley View, TX; granddaughters: Amelia (Ryan) Phinn of Scotts Valley, CA and Katrina (Travis) Edmunds of Gardnerville, NV; grandsons: Christopher Thorne of Valley View, TX and Kyle (Nora) Richter of Reno, NV; and great-grandchildren Noah Phinn, Cole Edmunds, Evelyn Richter, and Daniel Richter. Through his marriage to Diane, he is also survived by her two children Troy (Heather) Jernigan of El Cajon, CA and Cindy Estrada of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Diane’s grandchildren: Tiffany DePhilippis of San Diego, CA; Cassandra DePhilippis of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Thomas Jernigan of El Cajon, CA; Ashley Jernigan of El Cajon, CA; and Nicole (Dan) Joles of Alpine, CA; and Diane’s great-grandchildren: Capris of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Niko Joles of Alpine, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in California, Texas, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Pearl Thorne; two infant children Diana and David; his grandson Justin Thorne, and his siblings: Bob (Betty) Thorne, Beatrice (Charles) Tucker, Jack Thorne, Tom (Lefa/Edna/Joanne) Thorne, Zana (Thomas) Michael, and Datha (Richard) Stickley. Dan was cherished by all who knew him. His loved ones will carry the precious gift of his memory.
