Donald Charles Smith of Sun City, California passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at the age of 85. Don was born in Los Angeles, California on May 17, 1938. Don was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Smith, and his older sister, Shirley Moynihan. He is now survived by his younger brothers, Dennis, and David Smith.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Smith. Don is also survived by his sons, Andrew Smith, Jeffery Smith, Donald Smith, and Jeremy Smith, their spouses, and five grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Annisa Smith, Emily Smith, Nolan Smith, and Sequoia Smith.
Don worked most of his career in Human Resource Management at Eaton Cutler-Hammer electrical manufacturing. Don was in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts with the title of Direction-Finding Operator. He earned marks for Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Marksman (Carbine) and received medals for Armed Forces Expeditionary, Air (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), and Good Conduct.
Don was an extremely kind and caring man, always thinking about the next birthday and holiday gift, or that little something to give as a special reminder of his love and commitment to his family and friends. He lived to love and support his grandchildren, always attending special events, graduations, recitals, dance competitions, and baseball games.
Don loved to fish and spend his summers at the family’s cabin in Fish Lake, Utah, which he shared with his sister Shirley and brother David. It was here that the plaque on the wall read: "God grant that I may live to fish, until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's safe landing net, I'm peacefully asleep. That I will be judged, good enough to keep."
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation https://t2t.org/.
