Nancy was born on 12/15/1944 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She was the fourth of nine children of Enyard and Victoria Olson. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Phillip Maloney, former husband Richard Werre, her parents, stepson Randy Maloney, brothers Robert and John Olson. She is survived by her sons Timothy and James Werre, daughter Jodi (Werre) Shoemaker, children through marriage Todd and Richard Maloney, Tammy (Maloney) Brown, her many and much-loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and six siblings (Donald Olson, Judy (Olson) Haney, Richard Olson, Carrie Olson, Becky (Olson) Tuff, and Sherry (Olson) Holt), and their spouses.
Nancy Maloney had a wonderful life. As a young girl, Nancy was so proud of being a Majorette leader in the VFW Drum and Bugle Corp marching band! Along with her brother Rick, they had an opportunity to play during half time at the Orange Bowl in Florida! They also played at a Grand Opening of one of the first large malls in Winnipeg, Canada! Nancy also enjoyed the hours she spent playing across the street in the winter snow and ice rink, with her siblings, at Wilmar City Park. In her later years she enjoyed entertaining, knitting, sewing, ceramics, and many other crafts! She also enjoyed working on her computer, playing online games and many nights playing cards with family!
Nancy Olson married Richard Werre on June 30, 1962, and moved to Renton, WA. They raised three children together. Nancy attended Renton Cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist throughout the years along with other business ventures with her husband Rick. They both loved to roller skate and took dance skating lessons together. It was truly magical to watch them skate and dance together on the floor! She also was very passionate about keeping family together and encouraged more family members from North Dakota to follow her to Washington. Fortunately for all of us, we took her advice! Nancy was a giving person and made a great impact on so many people’s lives.
In 1994, Nancy’s husband of 32 years, Richard Werre, passed away at 53 years old, Nancy was 49 years old at the time. Shortly after, Nancy married Phillip Maloney and relocated to California.
Phillip and Nancy had an amazing life together traveling and building their dreams going forward! Nancy had a sharp entrepreneurial vision and the confidence to begin a new business venture! Together they purchased several homes in the Sun City community for rental investment purposes and was quite successful! She devoted many hours to remodeling three homes that Nancy and Phillip lived in to make them more comfortable for her family and friends to enjoy and was known for having everyone over for large gatherings. Nancy was a remarkably kind person always opening her home to everyone. Nancy and Phil celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on December 10th, 2021, before his passing on August 22, 2022.
Nancy was the keeper of family genealogy information and had many stories to share about growing up in hard times with her brothers and sisters. She always spoke so proudly of her mother Victoria and the hard work she did in raising the family with so little.
Nancy, thank you for being such a major part of our lives. We love you and you will be forever missed.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor in June 2023. Please join us in sharing your personal memories of
Nancy.
