Woody Lee Sims was born April 27, 1937 in Denton, Texas to Bessie Mae Carlis and Woodie Sims and entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2023. Woody left Texas at the age of 19, moved to California and joined the United States Airforce. He served in the Airforce from 1956-1960. Following his time in the Airforce, Woody was employed at Mare Island Shipyard as a Radiation Controller for 30 years.
In 1956, Woody married his first wife, Mary Beatty, to which his four children were born. In 1985, Woody met and married his wife Cynthia to which two more children were added to his family. In 2005, Woody,
Cynthia and Ryan relocated to Menifee, California. Upon relocating to Menifee, Woody obtained employment at Pechanga Resort Casino as a Security Officer for 10 years. During this time, he met Jesse Martinez, Bob Legge and Albert Smith and they became the best of friends. Together,
they created life-long memories.
Woody’s favorite past times included fishing, hunting, golfing, and BBQing for his family, he was definitely an outdoors man. Woody had an infectious smile and a shoot from the hip personality.
Woody is preceded in death by his parents, Woodie Sims and Bessie Mae Carlis, and son in-law James Lauderdale.
Woody leaves to remember his beautiful life, Cynthia, his wife of 38 years, his children Linda Lauderdale, Sedina Gaskin (Daryl-son in law), Patrice Escovedo (Peter Michael-Son in law), Woody J. Sims (Cheri-daughter in law), stepsons Ryan and Sean Whitlow, 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Woody was a light in this world and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
