Albert N Hernandez Jr., was born on February 16, 1948 in Merced, CA and passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Merced, CA surrounded by his family and closest friends at the age of 63.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr and Edna Hernandez; maternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Josefa Rubalcava; and paternal grandparents, Margarito and Soledad Hernandez.
Albert is survived by the love of his life, Mary (Lulu) Ortiz, with whom he recently celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary; his son, Derek Dean (Eva); his daughter, Melisa Hernandez; and 2 grandchildren, McKenna and Kamille Dean.
Albert was raised in Le Grand, CA where he attended both elementary and high school. He was active in both Track and Football at LeGrand High School where he graduated in 1967. After high school Albert enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War where he served two tours in Infantry from April 1970 to December 1971. He was a proud member of the V.F.W.
Albert worked at Ski Centerion where he was employed as Supervisor of Detailing and Molds until the time of his retirement in 1997. He was extremely proud of the work he did for Centerion and was known for the superior work ethic and craftsmanship. Albert was active in the Weaver 4-H for over 20 years where he had the opportunity to encourage and support not only his own children but many others. Albert was loved by all those he helped and maintained friendships with the majority of those well into their adulthood and until his death. He loved watching football and was an avid Minnesota Viking fan and wore his purple and gold with pride. He enjoyed fishing, being out at Lake Yosemite boating and spending quality time with his primos and friends.
Recitation of the Rosary will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 9:30am with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 435 W. 21st St., Merced, CA. Military honors will be provided by the Merced County V.F.W. Honor Guard.
