Augustine Sarabia Alonzo

Augustine “Boogie” Alonzo was born on January 13, 1934 and went to Heaven on November 26, 2015 at the age of 81 in Merced, California. He was known to most as “Boogie”; a nickname he earned in his boxing days.

Augustine served in the United States Army and was a dedicated employee of Foster Farms for 37 years. He married Concepcion “Concha” Norzagaray, the love of his life of 50 years, on June 20, 1965 in San Ignacio, Sonora, Mexico.

His giving heart was loved by many and he will be greatly missed. It gave him the most joy to bless others with fruits and vegetables that he hand-picked himself. He thoroughly enjoyed watching boxing with family and friends. Best remember for his kindness and sincere devotion to all who knew him. He was also known affectionately by his grandkids as "Tata" and leaves them a harvest of fruits of life.

He is survived by his wife, Concepcion “Concha” Alonzo; sons, Nick and Miguel Alonzo; daughters, Blanca Alonzo and Angie Alonzo-Ruiz; brother, Charlie Alonzo; grandchildren, Joel Guerra, Pino Virgen, Michael Alonzo, Stephanie Millan, Whitney Amber Derr, Alexia “Binky” Ruiz and Eli Ruiz.

Preceded in death by parents, Augustine Alonzo, Sr. and Socorro Alonzo; brothers, Mike, Joe, and Frank Alonzo; sisters, Lupe Avina, Adela Alonzo, Ofelia Cervantes and Mary Alonzo; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A vigil service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home at 1490 B Street, Merced from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 560 W.13th Street, Merced. Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:30 am at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella.
