Bertha Siok Kam Lee

Bertha was born on December 15, 1926 in Sibolga, Indonesia to Andrew Boon Hak Ang and Marianna Siu Kiauw Tjoa and passed away on July 11, 2012 in Merced, CA.

While working at the Netherlands Trading Society Bank in Singapore, Bertha met Stephen Jin Soon Lee. They wed on Easter Sunday, March 26th of 1951. In 1975, Stephen and Bertha emigrated from Singapore with their 6 children to settle here in Merced County. Throughout the years she worked for Allstate, Kmart, and the Employment Development Department of Merced; however, she will be most remembered as a wonderful mother, housewife, and caregiver. She was a devout Catholic who attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on a weekly basis. In addition to traveling, her passion was to gamble, as she loved playing the slot machines.

Bertha was preceded in death by her son, Joseph of San Francisco.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Lee of 61 years; her children, Anthony of Merced, Philomena (Glenn Abrescy) of Winton, Christina (Tom Murphy) of Cressey, Vincent (Charles John) of New York, and Gerard (Rebecca Lee) of Texas; and grandchildren, Sean Soto, Christopher Abrescy, Andrew Murphy, and Samantha Murphy.

An open viewing will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 12 PM to 1PM. On Monday, July 16, 2012 a Rosary will be held at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 435 W. 21st St., Merced, CA. Bertha will be eternally laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
