Carl Z. Mays Sr.

Carl worked for the Naval Supply in Oakland and later moved to El Nido where he worked for Ray Flanagan as a bus driver for the Farm Laborer. Next, Carl moved to Merced where he worked for a dear friend, Sansoni and then retired as a Merced High School bus driver.

Carl was an active member of his church and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, shopping at Wal-Mart and working in his garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife to whom he was happily married to for 53 years, Erma Mays; and sons, David, James, Larry, Daniel, Carl and Wayne Mays.

Carl leaves behind his wife, Adela Mays; children, Mattie Hightower of Lancaster, Luevenia Eastman of Las Vegas, Shirley Emory of Merced, Carolyn McPherson of Texas and Patricia Lawrence of Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA. Funeral services will be held at Apostolic Tabernacle on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11:00am with son-in-law, Sam Emory officiating. Burial will follow the services at Merced District Cemetery.

Carl Mays was loved, respected and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
