Charlie was born and raised in Gettysburg, PA. Gettysburg, where he met his true love, Betty Jo. He graduated from Penn State University, and was an avid Penn State alumni his entire life. Charlie entered the U.S. Air Force July, 1951 and served for almost 30 years. He enlisted as a lowly airman, and by the end of his career, was a full Colonel. Colonel Rodgers served with distinction and honor throughout his Air Force career. Charlie retired in 1980, and settled in Merced, CA. He was active in his community, church, and the Junior College. He always enjoyed his work at H & R Block, his work as church treasurer, and his work with the Basketball Booster Club. Charlie was an avid runner most of his life, enjoyed a good book, a cold glass of wine with friends and family, a day in the hot California sun, an early morning of exercise at the Junior College, and especially loved to "watch the world go by." His passions also included traveling and watching Kentucky Wildcat basketball. Charlie was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Merced, and was honored to be a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Daedalions, and MOAA.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo, their three children: Douglas, Michael , and Karen, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many dear friends, too numerous to count, but always on his mind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2916 North McKee Road, Merced.
His family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the love and prayers that have been shared.
