Doris Ella Alexander

Doris Ella Alexander age 87, died on January 18, 2016 in Merced, California. Doris, was born September 16, 1928 in Nebraska. She was the youngest of eight children of Carl and Mathilda Doescher. She was raised on the family farm in Dixon, Nebraska. She graduated from Allen High School and attended Wayne State Teachers College. Mrs. Alexander married Willard (Doc) Alexander in 1949 and in 1956 moved to Merced, California. Doris received the 50years Community Member award in 2015 from the Old Timers Association, was a member of Merced Women’s Club and past president, Emblem club and Sweet Adeline’s. She was also a member of Thrivent Financial an organization for Lutherans.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Doc Alexander and son Steven, her parents and three brothers and four sisters.

She leaves behind three daughters and one daughter in-law. Kaylene Mortensen and husband Gary of Modesto, Carla Drayer and Husband Rick of Le Grand, Paula McCabe and husband Bill of Ahwahnee, daughter-in-law Diana Alexander of Merced. She had 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, California. Services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on January 29, 2016 10:00 a.m. at 2916 North McKee, Merced, California. Burial will follow at Merced District Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Doris Alexander may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
