Ed Mounce Jr. was born February 9, 1935 in Mulberry, Arkansas to Rosie Collins-Mounce and Eddie Mounce, and passed to his eternal Home July 14, 2017.
As a boy, he attended school in Merced until enlisting in the US Army and being stationed in Korea, at the age of 17, to fight in his first of 4 wars. He met and married the loved of his life, Marcella Jeanette Lee on October 8, 1955 after his first tour in Korea had ended. He spent the next 20 years traveling twice to Germany, three more tours to Korea, and a couple of times to Lawton, Oklahoma. Finally, we settled here in Merced, California when Dad retired from the US Army at the age of 37.
After only two days of retirement, Dad began his 2nd career as a Drywall Construction worker for 20 more years.
He has 3 sons, Michael (Andy), Terry, and Eddie and one daughter, Jeanie, which were all raised to hold good family values, a strong work ethic, and taught how the love of God holds a family together through good and bad times.
He has his first granddaughter, Rebecca, at the age of 43, which he helped raise and took the place as a father to her. He then had 6 grandsons, Michael, Larry, David, Randy, Tony and Chris, and 2 more granddaughters Tammy and Samantha. These 9 grandchildren would go on to bless him with many great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
Dad, with Mom, also spent a few years as foster parents and as an emergency receiving home for children.
Dad had been a member of Calvary Temple Church, and House of Prayer, and his most recent church attendance when he was able to attend was at Christian Life Center with Pastor Mike Hull as his Pastor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Mounce and his firstborn son, Michael. Also, Bertha Hogan, his oldest sister that raised him as her own, her husband whom he called Dad, Holland Hogan, and a sister Betty. Two Great grandchildren Gavin and Dylan.
He is survived by his sister Peggy Huie, brothers Kenneth, Durrell and Rodger Hogan as well as his 3 children, Terry (Abby) Mounce, Jeanie Mounce-Bugher, and Eddie (Kathy) Mounce. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Rebecca, Tammie, Michael, Larry, David, Samantha, Randy, Tony and Chris, great grandchildren, Adrian, Ben, Matthew, Marcus, Kiahna, Alexa, Hannah, Noah, and Vivian Marie Mounce on the way, and 1 great-great grandson, Logan.
While living the last 4 years with his eldest son Terry, Dad also had a loving caregiver, Cecilia, that spent many hours with him, caring for him and keeping him company, even during his hospital stays. We will be forever grateful to her.
