Fidelia Soto Hernandez

Fidelia Soto Hernandez, 100, passed away at her home on December 28, 2020. Our mother was born on May 1, 1920 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, one of five children (Gregorio Jr., Henry, Octavio and Freddy) born to Gregorio and Maria Soto. She immigrated to Planada in early 1927. She married Michael Hernandez in 1946.

She always had a sharp memory and could remember where every knickknack, collectible and treasured kitchen item came from. Mom was an incredible cook and baker. Her birthday and holiday dinners along with birthday and wedding cakes were a generous way she showed her love. She shared her vivid memories of Mike’s baseball games, Club Mercedes dances, Disneyland every year for her kids and many travels including driving her father in their Model A to the 1939 San Francisco World’s Fair.

She had a great many friends that shared her fun sense of humor. She was strong, independent and such a hard worker in everything she did and she never complained. She thought her wringer washing machine was better than a modern washer as she could stand over it for an hour and be done with a week’s worth of laundry. She had to special order her last wringer washer as you couldn’t just go into a store and find one. She retired in her seventies from Montgomery Farms. She was known for being good with money, tight you could say, keeping the cleanest house and enjoying her garden.

She was a godmother to many and an extraordinary caregiver, helping to raise four generations in the Hernandez, Cervantes and Fones families. In 2012, her husband of 66 years, Mike, 94, passed away. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers and “just like family” Kevin Cervantes. She leaves behind her sons, Michael Jr., Robert (Denise), granddaughters, Cameron (Rocky Cisneros), Laura (Kevin Dickinson) and Gina Cervantes. She really had a wonderful life because she appreciated so much, especially the people that loved her. Services will be private.
