Francis was born in Redding, CA where he attended schools until 1942. After high school he worked in the summer running a concrete vibrator during the construction of Shasta Dam. He attended Sacramento JC for one semester and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. There he received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant and his pilot wings in May of 1944. Shortly after D Day he served in England and France in the Troop Carrier Command, hauling supplies and towing gliders on combat missions. Returning from Europe after V-E Day he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Larson, in August 1945.
After discharge, he was employed by Pacific Tel & Tel as an Engineering Assistant. After several years in Redding as a Telephone Representative he was transferred to Sacramento. There he held various positions including Service Engineer, Sales Supervisor, Public Office Manager, and Unit Manager. In 1961, after 8 years, he was transferred to Merced as Manager.
Francis enjoyed golf, fishing, golf, boating and water skiing, golf, camping and RVing, and golf. He was active in many organizations such as; Merced Relations Committee, Boy Scouts, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Base Community Council, Our Lady of Mercy Dad’s Club, OLM Choir, Barbershop Chorus, and Merced Golf and Country Club.
Francis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years in March 2003.
He is survived by his sons, Michael of Snelling, Brian of Merced, and Timothy of Jamestown; daughter, Lenna Peterson of Sonora; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Requiem Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s, 671 E Yosemite Ave, Merced, CA on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:00am with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
