

Growing up in Planada, Greg was a member of the Webelos and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed shooting guns, riding bikes, motorcycles and fishing. He started working at Lute’s Market, the family business, around the age of 12. He worked there until the family sold the business. He then started working as a butcher for New Deal Markets in Merced and Los Banos. He used to dream about working on a ranch and driving tractors and that would actually become his job for the rest of his life. For the past 20 years, Greg worked for Mayo Dairy in Le Grand where he specialized in equipment operations which he loved doing.
Greg attended Planada Elementary and Le Grand High School and graduated in 1978. He was married to Kelly McCullough for 10 years and had two children together, Jennifer and Daniel.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents Norman (Pete) and Geraldine Lute and Virgil and Edna Fairchild. He is survived by his parents Ben and Carol Fairchild of Merced, his daughter Jennifer Fairchild of Merced, his son Daniel (Melissa) Fairchild of Escalon, grandchildren Haylee Limon and Donovan and Austin Fairchild, sisters Lori (Mark) Hamblin of Le Grand and Kelli (Matthew) Cochran of Merced, nieces Valerie (Alex) Garcia, Jill Harmon, Rachel Hampton, Maddie Hamblin and nephews’ Tj Strickland and Karr Hamblin as well as his close cousin Julie Belloli and many other cousins, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ located at 2050 Yosemite Parkway in Merced, California.
