It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Guy Belt Sr., a cherished husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend, and respected member of his community. Guy passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 70.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Guy was raised with strong family values and an enduring sense of compassion that shaped the life he led. He attended Merced High School, where his quiet strength and work ethic began to shine. He later joined the Merced Housing Authority, where he rose through the ranks to become Maintenance Manager, retiring with 30 years of dedicated service. He was known by colleagues for his integrity, diligence, and leadership.
Guy’s life was full of warmth, joy, and genuine connection. He had a deep passion for barbecuing, fishing, and playing Yahtzee and dominoes—games that always came with laughter and friendly competition. A natural athlete, he enjoyed bowling and softball, proudly serving as the manager of the beloved Road-Dawgs Softball Team. His energy and enthusiasm brought people together, and he found great joy in every moment spent with his team and community.
At the heart of Guy’s life was his family, whom he loved unconditionally. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Belt, and his devoted children: Guy Belt Jr. (wife Ana Rios Belt) and Angela Jackson (husband John Jackson). He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren—Eriq, Darius, Aaliyah, Aayona, Jalon, Savion, Aiden, Naylani, Cameron, Ian, and Micah—and the joyful great-grandfather of 9 great-grandchildren: Aamiyah, Nevaeh, Qire, Khamiyah, Amiyah, Tyler, Aliyah, Amiri, and Taylen.
Guy is also survived by his mother, Bessie Belt, and his siblings Curtis Belt, Denise Belt, and Charlotte Mitchell, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Theodore, and his beloved sister, Donna Marie Belt.
Those who knew Guy remember him as kind, considerate, and deeply empathetic. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and wisdom. He was the kind of man who listened without judgment, gave without expectation, and loved without limit. Whether spending a sunny afternoon by the grill or cheering on his grandkids at a game, Guy brought light to every room and joy to every heart.
Above all else, Guy loved his family—immediate and extended—with a loyalty and passion that defined his life. His legacy lives on in the memories shared, the values he instilled, and the love that will continue to grow through generations.
A celebration of Guy's life will be announced soon, where all who loved him are welcome to gather, share stories, and honor a life so beautifully lived.
Rest in peace, Guy. You were truly one of a kind.
A Celebration of Life for Guy will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 404 W 6th St, Merced, CA 95341.
