

Isabel Flores Castro born June 25, 1931, age 91, of Le Grand, California passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. She left school at an early age to help her family. After many hard years of working in the agricultural fields, canneries and packing houses throughout the valley, Isabel proudly retired from Ragu Foods in Merced.
Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Guadalupe Castro; her siblings, Tony Castro, Julian Romero, Helen Sanchez, Margaret Sandoval, Catarino (Emma) Romero, Alice (Teodoro) Garcia.
She is survived by two sisters, Modesta Fuentez of Le Grand, California and Mary Contreras of Merced, California. Isabel is also survived by her numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. They will all fondly remember her as their “Auntie Bell.”
Her home on Marshall Street in Le Grand, California was the very first home built by Habitat for Humanity of Merced Count in Merced County. She remained very supportive of Habitat for Humanity throughout the years even donating a vacant lot in Le Grand to Habitat to help another family have the benefit of suitable housing.
At her birthday celebration gathering when she turned 90 years of age she was specially recognized by our California State Representative Adam Gray and California State Senator Anna Caballero with certificates of recognition for her achievements.
Isabel was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Le Grand, California and Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society of Le Grand for many years.
