

After graduating from High School Jim entered the USAF where he served his country for 4 years and left with honors. He was stationed at Castle AFB, CA and there he met his wife of 52 years, Wilda Hawkins Simms. After leaving the military, Jim joined the Merced Fire Dept and served 20 years earning the rank of Captain. He served his country and community with pride & dedication.
After the death of Wilda, Jim was blessed by meeting & marrying Shirley Jean Davis.
Jim loved music, playing several instruments and was part of CLC Music Ministry for years.
He traveled the world and always put his family first only after God. He was a good man, father, husband & friend. He was loved and will be missed.
Jim was preceded in death by both parents; 3 brothers; and his beloved wife, Wilda Mae Hawkins Simms.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Shirley Davis; sons, James Allen Simms & David Maxwell (Robernette) Simms; and numerous family and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their calls, cards, prayers and acts of kindness during this challenging time. Thank you & God bless you all.
On Thursday, May 23, 2013 Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA will be a visitation from 11:00am-1:00pm followed with services at 1:00pm and interment to follow at Merced District Cemetery.
