

John M. Shaw was born on November 1, 1939 in Culver, Indiana to Harold and Bessie Shaw and peacefully passed away at home in Catheys Valley, California on February 8, 2016. John lived in Culver, Indiana for 15 years then moved with his family to Riverside, California where he lived for 17 years. He worked for 30 years with the California Youth Authority, including Asst. Superintendent of the Mt. Bullion Youth Conservation Camp in Mariposa County and as Director of Transportation and Population in Sacramento.
John served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and Active Reserves 4 years. He was a member of the Free Masons with Mariposa County Masonic Lodge, and a proud member of NRA.
John is preceded in death by his parents Harold (Pat) and Bessie (Louden) Shaw; and his beloved grandson SPC Lukas Hopper KIA in Iraq, 2009.
John is survived by his dear wife Annette (Parmley) Shaw of 53 years, Catheys Valley, California; daughter, Robin Hopper (Yancy) Catheys Valley and Merced, California; son, Brian Shaw, Catheys Valley; daughter Karen Dias (Kevin), Handford, California; brother, Steve Shaw (Diane), Victorville, California; 4 grandchildren, Chantal & Celeste Hopper; Briana Shaw; Brittany Dias; 2 great grandsons, Christian & Cobin Shaw.
John was known for his easy smile, his quick humor, his friendly nature and his great love of family and home. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, cattle drives in the Sierra Mountains Motor Cross and NASCAR.
A graveside memorial service will be held on February 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Catheys Valley Cemetery, on Hornitos Road. Immediately following will be a reception and celebration of life at McCay Hall in Catheys Valley, 2820 State hwy 140, Catheys Valley, California.
