

She passed peacefully at Anberry Nursing and Rehab Facility in Atwater, surrounded by her loving family. She was under the care of Bristol Hospice.
Josephine was born in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Merced at a young age where she eventually married and raised her four children. She cared for patients at La Sierra Long Term Facility for about 20 years where she was a certified CNA.
Her family remembers her as a master tortilla maker who enjoyed gardening and loved caring for her grandkids. She enjoyed music and especially dancing to her beloved husband Raymond’s band in her younger years.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents, Pablo and Michaela Rivas; her step-son, John Lozano; brothers and sister, Paul, Tommy, Angel and Sue. She is survived by her children, Dorella (Randy) Gill of Santa Rosa, Jeffery (Karen) Lozano of Modesto, Raymond Lozano Jr. of Los Angeles, and Sandy Johnston of Las Vegas; her sisters, Mary Cotta and Vickey Frank, both of Merced; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Visitation for Josephine will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, California.
A Chapel Blessing will occur Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1490 B Street, Merced, California
An Interment will occur Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 260 W Childs Ave, Merced, California.
