Larry Oryl Fredrickson was born on March 16, 1927 in Big Lake, MN to Violedge and Elizabeth (Stewart) Fredrickson and passed away in Merced, CA at the age of 84.
Larry graduated from Merced High School in 1944 where he was involved in varsity basketball and track. He joined the US Navy in 1944 where he served aboard the warship cruiser USS Santa Fe in the South and North Pacific until WWII was over, then to Japan for Occupation and served the Magic Carpet Return of GI’s to Home America.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Past Grand Knight, Past District Deputy, American Legion, where he served as Past Commander, post #83, Past Commander of the 12th district, Past Vice State Commander, Honor Society of the American Legion called Forty-n-Eight Voyagers of the La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux, Past Chef-de-Gare (president), Past Sous Chef-de Eare (vice president), and the Winton V.F.W. He was currently a 50 year member of Stanislaus Voiture #653, Modesto, current 35 member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Merced, and a 45 year member of the Merced Elks Lodge #1240, past lodge secretary (5 years). He served as veteran’s committee chairman for 25 years, past director of Merced Fish and Game, and member of Merced City Parks and Recreation Commission.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Verle, Stella, and Mabel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita of 63 years; daughters, Linda (Harve) Williams of Azle, TX; Suzi (Robin) Bernard of Merced, CA; Debbie (Mike) Sanchez of Hollister, CA; and Lori (Roger) Esparza of Livermore, CA; grandchildren, Kymee (John) Caughey; Dennis (Kim) McGowen; Steven (Sharesa) McGowen; Tony (Liz) Luiz; Chris (Katie) Bernard; Jason (Megan) Bernard; Matthew and Sarah Bernard; Marie (Hunter) Cuneo; Adam Nannini; Leslee, Jamie, and Melissa Sanchez; Krystal and Derek Esperaza, Roger Esparza Jr.; and Noreen (Joe) Coory; great grandchildren, Garrett; Dusty; Michael; and Katie Caughey; DJ, Riley, Ireland, Dalton, Ava, and Thomas McGowen; Cooper, Sydney, and Merrick Bernard; Lucas Coory; Jonathan Luiz; Bernadette, Catherine, and John Cuneo; and his brothers, Phillip and Harold.
We will miss you so much. You were the love of all of our lives. Until we meet again. . .We Love You.
Visitation will be at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. with Recitation of Rosary to be at 6:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 617 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced, CA on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 W. McCabe Rd., Gustine, CA.
