
Leslie John Van Someren was called to his heavenly home Tuesday morning, October 12, 2021. He was reluctant to leave his loved ones behind on earth, but knew it was time to go. Les was born December 18, 1932 in Woodville, Wisconsin. In his youth his family moved from Wisconsin to California. At 18, a high school student in 1951, Les enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Boats man 3rd Class on the USS Montague during the Korean Conflict. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1955, Les completed his High School Graduation requirements and a carpenter apprenticeship program.
In December 1955 Les married his love, Dorothy. They built a wonderful home and often extended their hospitality to others. He was always willing to use his God given talents to help others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Agnes Van Someren, younger sister Betty Murray (John) and infant son Rodney. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of almost 66 years; daughters Pam Lunney (Keith), and Peggy Clendenin (Bob); grandchildren Ryan Lunney, Patrick Lunney (Melanie), Schyler Clendenin (Chelsie), Samantha Clendenin (Bryan), Sara Clendenin, and great granddaughter Lucy Lynn Clendenin. Les left a legacy of a life well lived, genuine, sincere, and loving. He set a fine example for his children and grandchildren. He was an example of kindness to all that knew him.
A memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00am at the Central Presbyterian Church, 1920 Canal Street, Merced, CA 95340. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
