Reflections of Life
A Time to be Born - Melvin James Bryson was born to the late Lewis Bryson and Irene Willis in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 24, 1936.
A Time to Learn - Mel obtained majority of his training and education during his service in the United States Air Force, while additionally obtaining his AA degree from Merced Junior college post service.
A Time to Serve - Mel served his country with great valor in the United States Air Force from June 28th, 1954, until his honorable retirement on August 31st, 1975. During his service he distinguished himself by meritorious service as Group Vehicle Operations Supervisor, he received numerous accolades with his most notable being the Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for his service in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service at Mather Air Force base. During this period, he earned the rank of Technical Sergeant. His outstanding professional skill, knowledge, and leadership aided immeasurably in the accomplishment of mission objectives. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Bryson culminated a distinguished career in the service of his country, and reflected credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
A Time to Reflect - Mel was an avid adventurer. He enjoyed fishing and just being outside along a bank of water. Although he wasn't always proficient at catching fish, it never deterred him from getting right back out there and just enjoying the outside to clear his mind. He was active within the Senior Center, attending Bingo EVERY Friday and even playing the role of Santa Claus. Mel attended church regularly, and was in the congregation at St Patrick's Catholic Church and took pride in being an usher there as well.
A Time to Love - On December 22, 1956, he married the love of his life, Helen Elizabeth Williams.
A Time to Pass - Mel peacefully passed in his home surrounded by love at 9:30am on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the age of 90.
A Time to Mourn - The legacy he leaves behind to cherish his memory includes but is not limited to; a son, Melvin James Bryson II; a daughter-in-law Audra D Hodges; , grandchildren Jacqueline Mason; Michael Bryson; Brittney Bryson and John Paige Jr; , great-grandchildren, Kiara and Kaizen McDaniels;, a sister Thelma Maxey; a brother Robert Willis and a sister-in-law Jacqueline Walker. His dearest friends Mr. and Mrs. Clarance Sullivan as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in passing was his loving wife Helen Bryson and sister Geneva Wooten.
