October 23,1933 - November 12, 2010
Mr. Pete G. Meza of Merced passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his caring wife, loving daughter, and a close friend of the family. He was 77 years old.
He was born in El Rincon de Huajupa, Durango, Mexico, to Isauro Meza Lopez and Paula Guerrerro Lopez.
Pete is survived by Dora Elizabeth Meza his wife of 28 years. He is also survived by 13 of his 14 children: His devoted daughter and caregiver Monique (Stephen), Darren (Holly), Maria (Robert), Pete (Grace), Mucio (Diana), Irma, Josie, Rosie (Blas), Vincent (Linda), Adam, Limber, Lizzie, and Pete Ray (Venus). He is preceded in death by his son Saul Meza, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind Alexia and Robert Jr., whom became his adopted grandchildren.
He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Pete had a rough upbringing as a child, and learned the meaning of hard work. He made his way to the United States at the young age of 17. After a brief stay in Sanger, he moved to the Central Valley where he worked several jobs, some of the most notable being for The Carlucci Brothers and Henry Miller of Los Banos. Later, he made his way toward Merced, and established his own small business doing gardening and landscaping.
Gardening was not only his occupation, but his hobby as well. He could pass the day away in his yard, and that is what truly brought him joy and a sense of relaxation.
Some of Pete's pass times were watching boxing on Saturdays, Western films on Sundays, and shooting guns with his sons. Pete also enjoyed the t.v. series' Cops, and America's Most Wanted.
Those who had the opportunity to know Pete personally knew that he was a strong man with a great work ethic, good old fashion morals, and a kind heart. He is one of those individuals that is hard to find nowadays. He was diagnosed with lung cancer approximately 3 years ago and fought the disease past the point doctors said he would. However, there came a point where he was unable to do so any further, and God decided to take him Home to be at peace.
We, his children, will all miss him dearly and will never forget the teachings he bestowed upon us. For every thing there is a reason, and for every reason there is a purpose.
Public Visitation will be held at Stratford Evans Funeral Home in Merced on Thursday, November 18th from 3p.m-6p.m., followed by a Rosary service at 6pm.
