Raymond Leroy Fitchett

February 8th 1929 to July 5th 2023

Raymond Fitchett passed away peacefully at home on July 5th 2023. Ray was born on February 8th 1929 in Merced, the town he so adored. Ray graduated from Fresno State with a master's in education and spent his life as an educator in Merced County reaching the level of superintendent of schools in Winton California. He married the love of his life, Priscilla, in 1958 and raised three children. Ray loved to travel, spending time in Germany as an educator and travelling to Ireland many times with Priscilla. He enjoyed gardening and his home was often a stop on the local garden tours. He took pleasure in sports and was a lifelong Giants fan. Ray frequented the seashore and always liked being by the sea and visiting his son in San Diego, spending time on the boat deep sea fishing or at the beach people watching. Ray was an active member of Saint Luke's church, board member of AARP, and past president of Kiwanis Atwater. Ray was the consummate gentleman and his social calendar was full even into his late eighties.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Priscilla who passed in 2012. Ray is survived by his three children, Elizabeth Cook, Peter Fitchett, and Jonathan Fitchett (Mary), 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Services will be on Thursday July 13th at Our lady of Mercy St. Patricks church at 459 west 21st street. Services are at 11am. A reception will immediately follow at St. Patrick's.
