Raymond Flores, age 82, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Merced, California Ray spent nearly his entire life in Merced County. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 63 years; children Christina, Raymond Jr. (Suzanne), and Rachel Lane (Mark); grandchildren Courtney, Camisha, Trey, Thomas, Sofia, Joshua, and Brandy; great-grandson Zayden; brothers Marcy, Larry, John (Vera) and Ben (Christina); and sister Linda.
He is reunited in heaven with his mother and father, Vera and Albert, brothers, Carl and Arturo, sisters Mary Lou and Margaret (“Liz”), and son-in-law Vincent Benjamin.
Ray graduated from Atwater High School in 1961, part of the second graduating class. While there he met Barbara, his life-long love, and they were married shortly after graduation. A three-year, three-sport athlete, he was inducted into the AHS Athletics Hall of Fame. After high school, he served as a Navy Corpsman from 1961 to 1965, stationed at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Ray moved back to Merced County in 1965 and shortly thereafter began a thirty-one year career with Save Mart Supermarkets. His Save Mart family numbers in the hundreds as he touched many lives before retiring in 1998. Post-retirement Ray played golf – and lots of it – mostly at Merced Golf & Country Club but also on trips around the country.
Ray's passion for life was matched by his dedication to his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Barbara for 63 years. He was a proud and loving father, and he especially treasured his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. He was fond of watching his grandchildren grow and move through life, celebrating every milestone with immense pride.
A true enthusiast for a good party, he was the heart of every family gathering, where his laughter, storytelling, warm spirit, and love of celebration created cherished memories for generations.
