Bob was born the oldest of nine children to Robert and Ludovica (DiLonardo) Davis in Hackensack, New Jersey on February 25, 1947. His father was a Boy Scout executive, which took his family from New Jersey, to Pennsylvania, to Arizona and finally to Lancaster, California, where Bob graduated from high school in 1965 and attended Community College. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State majoring in Accounting and married his first wife, Patty (with whom he had three children), in 1969. After graduation, he went to work for Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in Los Angeles. Shortly after starting work, he got his draft notice and signed up for the National Guard. Peat Marwick had held his job, and he went back to work when done with all the additional specialized training the Guard had put him through. Bob was licensed as a CPA in 1973 with his license being No. 19269, which is now one of the oldest license numbers for California CPAs and was a practicing CPA for over 40 years.
Bob moved his family to Merced in 1980, when his old college buddy Doug Vogl convinced him to move up here and become the Merced partner of the Fresno-based firm of Davis and Vogl. In 1985, Bob and Linda started the firm of Davis and Tatum, Inc. CPAs. They merged their practice into Kemper CPA Group in 2005, from which Bob retired in 2011 and worked at home on special projects for a few years after.
He joined North Merced Rotary Club (now Merced Rotary Club) in 1982, where he was very active and served most years as Treasurer, served as President in 1994-1995 and has held Honorary Member status the last couple of years. Music was an important part of Bob’s life, and he spent over 35 years playing clarinet with the Merced College Concert Band, the past many years as 1st clarinet. He enjoyed traveling with Linda to far places including Australia, New Zealand, many countries in both Europe and South America, Canada, and Mexico, as well as visiting many states in our great country.
Bob and Linda (Herlitz) married in 1989 and blended their family. Bob has three children, Carrie (Paul) Perry of Atwater, Kevin (Mike Siudym) Davis of New York City, and Lauren (Justin) Younger of Nampa ID. Linda brought son Larry (Kristin) Newman of Atwater and step-son Craig (Christy) Tatum of Merced to the family. Together they have nine grandchildren - Aidan and Kellan Perry, Greyson Younger, Angelica (Tyler) Nelson, Troy (Alicen) Newman, and Sara (Tyler) Roe, Nick (Adriena), Craig, and James (Nicole) Tatum, and ten great grandchildren – Parker Nelson, Harbor and Lane Newman, Wade and Hudson Roe, and Nick, Dennis, Juliana and Dallas Tatum. Bob is survived by brothers Carl (Elmarie), Eddie (Karen), and Joe (Lori) Davis and sisters Janet (Paul) Abravaya and Anne Davis as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by siblings John, Howard and Mary.
We are grateful for the wonderful care Bob received from the caring staff at Cogir of Turlock Senior Living and Community Hospice. He was always happy, even as his devastating disease progressed, which was a blessing to him and all his family and caregivers.
A service is scheduled for June 23, 2023 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (website theaftd.org) or the charity of your choice.
