Tamboura Colbert, 53, of Merced, California, departed this world on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Tamboura or “Tam” as his family and friends lovingly called him, was born in Long Branch, New Jersey. He resided in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, for most of his early life. One of his favorite pastimes on the shore was surfing, from boogie boards to longboards, and he rode them all. Tam was always musical and was most accomplished in the trumpet, the instrument he settled upon in grade school. Oddly, the trumpet was not his first choice. Tam deftly selected an instrument not chosen by any of his elder siblings. After several suggestions, and, determined negotiations with his parents, the trumpet was his. Following graduation from Monmouth Regional High School, Tam attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in classical music.
Tam was always a kind and giving person, he found irony in the oddest places, demonstrated by his infectious laughter. Later in life (2015), he earned his master’s in Education with an emphasis in Clinical Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling and began his career. He dedicated himself to the service of the indigent, by providing rehabilitation counseling services within nonprofit organizations. He always had a word of encouragement for the people around him and touched the lives of those around him by sharing his experiences. His relationship with the LORD OF HOSTs was precious to him and he shared that knowledge and joy with others.
Tam was blessed to marry Mayra Bámaca, and their union produced an exceptional daughter, Sophia Bámaca-Colbert, who is a blessing to our family and this world. Tam enjoyed being a father: sharing his music taste with her, along with hobbies like watching scary movies, and taking Sophia to swim meets were a just few of his favorite fatherhood pastimes. Tam was so proud of her intelligence, beauty, and all her accomplishments, and will surely continue to be so from above.
Tamboura Colbert is survived by his mother, Annie B Colbert, daughter, Sophia Bámaca-Colbert, dearest friend, and co-parent Mayra Bámaca, and his brothers, Richard (Lynn), Monroe (Annette), Alan (Sharon), Vincent (Theresa), and Aaron (Marcie) Colbert. His sisters Christine Williams (Dwight) and Victoria Colbert-Hicks. As well as a whole host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his father George W. Colbert Sr., and brothers, Jeffrey, George Jr., Kenneth, and Anthony Colbert.
Tam will be missed and loved forever…
