VIRGINIA received her education in New York, & took joy in being a Candy-Striper at a local hospital, at a young age. Later the family moved to California.
Virginia was employed with Los Angeles Unified School District for a number of years. While residing in Woodland Hills, California Virginia’s health began to fail. After having open heart surgery, she relocated to Bakersfield to be closer to family that could help assist her in her time of need. As it turned out she assisted them as well. Approximately two months after her open heart surgery, she rode her grandson’s dirt bike a couple of miles in the Bakersfield summer, heat to assist her daughter with her childcare business. Granny was tough!
It was not too long before the rest of the family followed Granny to Bakersfield. Granny loved interacting with the children and the children loved “Granny”, it was not long before Grandma “V’ became “Granny Goose” & the rest was history. Faithful creative and loving is just a few things she was. Granny Goose had a passion for bowling, painting, gardening, telling jokes & eating. The problem with her jokes was she would forget the joke, mix two jokes together or tell you the end before the beginning.
Granny Goose served the Lord as a member of God’s Church of Deliverance. Her fondest memories were of assisting with the children’s Christmas plays, Vacation Bible School and the Church Harvest Fest. Granny was energized by people, various activities & loved to help do anything with or without her cane, most of the time without. Granny would say “That cane better learn how to keep up with me!”
& “I’m ok because SUPERMAN got me”.
Virginia was grateful and proud to serve as an usher in the house of the Lord. Virginia also served as Emeritus Juanita’s Francisco’s Armor Bearer & considered that a great honor as well as a privilege.
As Virginia’s health continued to deteriorate, she was a fighter to the very end. She leaves to mourn her passing: 4 sons & 2 daughters:Jannett L. Gregg, Clennon O. Thompson, James A. Thompson of Bakersfield, CA. Darryl D. Thompson & Amber of Sacramento, CA, Lil D. Francisco & Manuel Jock Jr. of Bakersfield, CA. & Tracey U. Thompson also of Bakersfield, as well as a host of Grand & Great-Grandchildren, loving relatives & friends.
