in Meridian,Mississippi, she was born on December 23, 1925, the only child of John Clifford Barnes and
Blanche Howell Thomas Barnes in Canton, Mississippi. She was known affectionately as “Bill” most of
her life. A graduate of Canton High School, Bill was voted “best dressed,” wearing clothes made by her
beloved grandmother, Daisy Thomas.
She is survived by her children, John Billy (“Bill”) Ammons, Jr. (Marilyn), Annette Hayes (Roy) and Clifford
Barnes Ammons (Pat), seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, whose pictures she
proudly displayed on the walls and tables throughout her house.
Bill loved dancing, cooking, fishing, bird-watching, and trips to the beach with family members. Bill’s
love for the outdoors could be traced back to coon hunting and fishing as a child. She passed this love
down to her children and grandchildren by taking them fishing during their formative years.
Bill wrote to everyone, about everything. She especially loved writing to her children and grandchildren,
telling them about her favorite birds that visited each day on her back deck.
Bill is now reunited with her husband and favorite dance partner, John Billy Ammons.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the City of Canton
Cemetery in Canton, Mississippi. Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
