In Picayune during the war, Ruby and Hugh met while he was in the Coast Guard—it was love at first sight, and when the war was finally over, they decided to marry. Twelve years and two sons later, Hugh was called to the pastorate, and he and would spend the next forty-five years in the ministry. They were a great team, and always worked together. As Ruby said, “Hugh preached, and I provided the sense of humor.” She truly was an extraordinary lady, and will be missed dearly. She loved people, and she loved well. She met every situation with humor and grace, and made everyone around her feel like family.
Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 4032 Poplar Springs Drive, Meridian, MS 39305.
