Deron Collins was my precious brother. He was one of the finest people that one could ever know. He had 6 wonderful children who I love so dearly. I wish so badly I could be with them at this time.  I know he’s in heaven with all our siblings and our dear sweet mother who loved him more than anything. My life was blessed by having 2 of the world’s finest men. My husband Lamar and my brother Deron.

My Uncle De gave me my first dog, a little Chinese pug, I named Kim, when I was 6 years old. I had visited his clinic, as I did every time we visited from Miami. My uncle was one of the kindest, sweetest examples of what a good man should be.

Dear Little De, Keith, Craig, Jeff, Leslie, and Chris,
     Most of you will not remember cousin Laura (one of Aunt Lynah’s daughters) as we lived so far apart and did not grow up together.   Still, I wish to send my deepest sympathy to you all.   Uncle De was so kind and could be quiet humorous at times.  He came to Jacksonville a few times to have lunch with Mother and myself in route to or from Normantown.    I can say with all my heart that we have lost a large piece of this family tree.   I find it so sad to lose some of the best parts of who we are.

Growing up with the Collins family was a treasured childhood experience.  Dr. Collins and Junebug were pillars of Merritt Island!  The Collins siblings were leaders among their peers.

More than all of that, they are a loving and amazing family!  Dr. Collins has been a role model for not just his children and grandchildren, but for many of us who were fortunate enough to know him and be in his presence.  

One of my first jobs was working at Dr. Collin's office.  He taught me humility by cleaning the dog kennels.  He taught me patience and professionalism by assisting in the clinic by weighing the animals and learning how to hold a dog or cat while it got a shot.

Truly great people come into your life once in a while.  When they do, you recognize them.  They stand apart from others.

Dr. Deron Collins was and continues to be a source of energy to be admired and appreciated.  

Thank you Dr. Collins, for being exactly who you have been for 94 years.  I look forward to being in your presence again!



I remember Dr. Collins with great fondness! He always had a smile on his face and was so kind to our pets and treated them with such a gentle nature.  He was also very kind to us and always had a little chuckle or something to make us laugh.  We did not have much money  and I am sure he charged what my mom could pay rather than what things really cost.  He stands out as one of the most kind and caring people I knew as a kid.

Dear Boys and Leslie,
Your Dad was so much to so many.  He always made me feel loved.  So many wonderful memories of being in Florida with all of you. Especially on my birthday. (Ask Jeff, he’ll explain). My children didn’t have a Grandfather on my side of the family so they adopted your Dad to be one for them. They loved him so much. Our tears tonight are a mixture of both sadness at the loss of such a wonderful man and joy for having been allowed to be a part of his life. We will love him always!!
