Born in Arkansaw, Wisconsin to Gertrude and Joseph Hartung, Duane and his twin brother Darrell were the youngest of 10 children. Duane was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and later earned his masters’ degree from Florida Institute of Technology.
Following his Army service, Duane continued his career in the Space Industry on the Apollo and Shuttle Programs where he remained until retirement. He also enjoyed teaching Dale Carnegie courses and helping people improve their lives.
Duane’s love of people kept him active in retirement with volunteer work in his community and his church. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Brevard Respite Program, St. Vincent De Paul Society and other civic organizations. He gave unselfishly and always had a song on his lips and a kind word for a stranger.
Although Duane lived with Alzheimer’s he succumbed to lung cancer. He was a loving husband to Patricia, his wife of 54 years, and wonderful father to James (Karen) Hartung, Tamara (Dean) Iacampo, John Hartung and Jennifer (Gavin) Sullivan who all survive him. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tara (John) Miller, Tricia Iacampo, and Jordan and Joshua Sullivan and his great grandson Jackson Dean Miller as well as many nieces and nephews.
