

George E. Yoakum, age 76, of Cocoa, Florida, passed away on January 30th 2022 at Viera Hospital in Viera, Florida, after a long illness. He was born on June 17, 1945 in Lafayette Indiana to Margaret and Harold Yoakum. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette Indiana. In High School, George enjoyed playing football. Following high school, George entered the Air Force and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan, on July 31, 1967. Mr. Yoakum was then employed by the Indiana State Police in Lowell, Indiana for nearly 35 years, living in Rolling Prairie, Indiana for over 30 years. He retired in June of 2003 and moved to Cocoa, Florida to be closer to his family. George was an avid golfer and you could always find him on the golf course or spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Susan K. (Trimble) Yoakum, his parents,
(Margaret and Harold Yoakum), his sister, Mary Yoakum Trobaugh, and brother Paul Yoakum. He is survived by his children, Melissa (Dr. Jeffrey) Williamson of Melbourne, Florida, son Michael (Rose) Yoakum of Crossville, Tennessee, and his brothers Harold Yoakum (Cocoa, Florida) and his brother Frank (Rita) Stull (Lafayette Indiana), six grandchildren (John, Jessica, Jamie, Jaclyn, of Cocoa, Florida), (Austin Yoakum and Blake Yoakum) of Satellite Beach Florida, five great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Pamela Trimble (Largo Florida) and multiple nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Indiana State Police, Cops for Kids program. A celebration of life will be held at Lake Poinsett Lodge, Cocoa, Florida on Saturday, February 26 at 1:00pm. Please be prepared to share your stories of the time you spent with George. Covered dishes are welcomed but not necessary. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Indiana sometime in April, to be determined at a later date.
