Herbert Leo Carter Sr.

Herbert Leo Carter, Sr., age 86, of Merritt Island, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Wuesthoff Hospital (Steward Medical Center). He was born in Dannemora, New York, and moved to Brevard County in 1990.

Mr. Carter enlisted in the US Army, 1953 -1956. He later was employed at Clinton Correctional Facility until he retired. He went on to finish college, received an Advanced Certificate in Educational Administration, and was employed by Plattsburgh City Schools as a teacher prior to his retirement in 1989.

He is survived by his wife of 63 ½ years Katherine (Delaney) Carter and his children Patricia (Dale) Sprague, Mary Fredericks, Linda (Richard) DiStefano, and Herb Jr. He also has 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Carter is predeceased by his son Michael, son-in-law Peter Fredericks and daughter-in-law Sandra Carter.

An announcement will be made, at a later date, for the Celebration of Life that will be held in New York.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Catholic Church in his name, to the American Heart Association in his name, or to Candlelighters of Brevard in honor of Jessica Fredericks.
