Joe Kirn

George Joseph Kirn (Joe) December 22, 1933 – May 7, 2022 Joe was born in Salina, KS to George and Elnora Kirn, the only boy in a family of 4 girls. He grew up on a farm near Solomon, KS . and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, KS. In 1957 he graduated from the School of Mines in Golden Colorado with a degree in Geological Engineering. His residence was Denver, CO however he traveled to many places for his work, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Texas, Alaska and more. He was respected by his peers in the oil industry and had many stories to tell. He reluctantly spent his last years in Merritt Island, Florida, living with his sisters, Georgia Kirn and Maddy DHeilly as his health failed, he never stopped missing Colorado, the mountains and Wyoming. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Elnora Kirn, sisters Teresa Nielson, Stella Hermes and Georgia Kirn. He is survived by his sister Maddy DHeilly, Merritt Island Fl, his companion of many years, Anne Waite – Minnesota, nephews Mike Greene, Dennis Greene, John Nielson – Kansas, Tim Greene-Arizona, Kevin Greene-Idaho, Chris Hermes-Colorado, Jay Kirn-Florida and niece Jeanette Smith –Colorado. He was a kind and gentle man with a good sense of humor, loved his morning Coors beer, his afternoon scotch, reading and TV westerns. Special thanks to Avid Home Care, Josh Flinn and the staff at Spine Center of Brevard for being kind and caring during his last years and VITAS Hospice for making his final days peaceful. Joe attended Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, a mass will be held on May 21,2022 at 11 A.M., burial will be at a later date in Kansas.
