Joseph “Joe” Craft Travis, passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2022, at age 87 on Merritt Island, Florida. Joe Travis is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Nadia Travis, sons Troy and TJ, daughter-in-laws Rebekah and Tifinie, grandchildren Dominic, Rachel, Ember, Cole and Ash, in-laws Ingrid, Gwen, Manfred, Josy and many dear friends. Joe Travis was born in California in 1934 and landed in Florida at the age of 11. His parents, Gator and Pearl Travis signed him into the Navy at age 17 to serve his country during the Korean war and see the world. Joe completed his High School degree while serving at sea off the coast of Korea. After 4 years in the Navy, he returned to Florida where he served as a volunteer fireman and worked various jobs. He worked summers at Pan Am World Services while putting himself through school at Florida State University. After he graduated in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration, Joe began working full-time for Pan Am World Services and remained a life-long Seminole. He enjoyed working in the space program in both the Eastern and Western Test Ranges as part of the group affectionately known as the Range Rats.He had a full and distinguished career with Pan Am then Raytheon filled with excitement, living in scores of islands and countries across the globe. Throughout his travels, he still made time for family. Joe Travis loved life, and lived it to the fullest. He never met a stranger and converted many friends into family. Joe and Nadia were happily married in Seychelles, enjoying 50 years together. They built a life together all over the world, including the good ‘ol USA and retiring to their home base in Merritt Island FL. Joe loved his family and friends, along with his FSU sports and was best known for his profound love of life, adventure, humor and sincere friendship to all. Joe danced like nobody was watching, loved like he’d never been hurt, and lived life as if it was heaven on earth. Family and friends will be received at the Wylie Baxley Funeral Home (1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953) on Sunday, February 27 from 2-4 pm. A Memorial Mass will take place at Divine Mercy Catholic Church (1940 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953) on Monday, February 28 at 11 am. Final resting place will be Cape Canaveral National Cemetery (Mims, FL). In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Francis Reflections Hospice, Divine Mercy Catholic Church or a charity of your choice in the name of Joe Travis would be appreciated.
