Born Oct. 5, 1938 to Robert and Blanche Humphrey in Miami, FL. From the beginning, Joyce was a friendly and caring person, forgoing friendships that would last a lifetime. Growing up in rural South Florida, Joyce experienced the best and worst life had to offer but always focused on the best. In 1957 with the birth of her first son, Johnnie Ray Crauswell and her second son in 1963 with Robert Douglas White, Joyce was determined to provide a loving home and Christian upbringing for her two sons. Doing whatever it took to provide for her boys, she had many jobs but always made friends and found joy in wherever she worked.
In 1981Joyce experienced a great loss when her oldest son, Johnnie Ray, was taken to heaven way too early in and auto accident. But with her strong faith in God and a personal relationship with our savior Jesus Christ, she made it through. She resolved to find joy in life once again.
In the mid 1980’s Joyce started working for the Miami-Dade County School board. She worked there until she retired. She liked her job but loved the people she met and shared laughter on a daily basis with those around her.
In 1996, she was blessed with her first grandson, Douglas Ray White and her life stated anew. Following in 2000 she was blessed once again with another grandson, Gerrit DeVane White. From that moment on her life was devoted to spending time with both of them. Joyce always said that being a Grammie was her greatest title in life!
Joyce spent the past five months living with her son Doug and his family, at their home in Rockledge, FL. She would see the grandsons off to school in the morning and anxiously await their return home in the afternoon. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her son in the mornings and afternoon before he went to work but loved dinner time when the whole family would gather to pray and talk about the day’s events.
She loved life and did not let her 15 year battle of C.O.P.D. slow her down. She enjoyed her weekly trips to the hairdresser, going to the poker room and the occasional trips to the casino with her sisters.
Joyce passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2013 with her family close by. She is survived by her sisters, Pat Dalton, Nita Scherr and Jean Humphrey. Her son Doug and daughter-in-law Kelly. two grandsons, Douglas Ray and Gerrit DeVane. Also her nieces Donna Jean Wimberly and Debbie Mumaw, her step children, Jimmy and Kevin White and Debbie Giordano. Plus many lifelong friends and new friends.
The family asks that you honor Joyce by smiling more, laughing often and Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
