Manuel made lasting friendships and the group of friends have always been close. His warm demeanor and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Manuel was an outstanding athlete, played goalie and later coached soccer. He also played basketball, he and his teammates were drafted to the “Infantería de Marina '' right from the arena while playing a championship game in Guayaquil Ecuador.
After his military service, he pursued a degree from Baylor College in Waco Texas. The work in cattle management took him to places like Santo Domingo and Esmeraldas in Ecuador to Las Cruces New Mexico in the US. After which he started a successful career as a business owner in Manta Ecuador working in the seafood industry until retiring in 1999.
Manuel is survived by his children: Pamela Esther Chavez, Juan Manuel Chavez and his wife Marena Eugenia Hincapie, Valeria Maria Chavez, Pablo Andres Chavez and his wife Kristen Beth Chavez, as well as his grandchildren: Manuel Andres Chavez, Nicholas Octavio Viteri, Bianca Alexandra Viteri, Emiliano Sebastian Chavez, Sofia Micaela Viteri, Madison Pamela Chavez, and Lucas Andres Chavez. He was preceded in death by his father Luis Mario Chavez, mother Isabel Baird, wife Pamela Mariana Dueñas, brother Hugo Chavez-Baird, and sister Isabel "Chaba" Chavez-Baird.
A memorial service to honor Manuel's life will be held on May 4, 2024, in Merritt Island, Florida, at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home located at 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953.
