

Sharon Lee Lowry, 78, passed away at home under the compassionate care of Hospice of St. Francis and her husband, on April 26, 2018 in Cocoa, Florida after a long and courageous battle against breast cancer.
Sharon was born on July 31, 1939 in Breckenridge, MI to Virgil and Georgia Coleman. She grew up in Bremerton, WA, and graduated from Bremerton High School in 1957. After high school, she under took a civil service career with the US Government that lasted forty plus years before retiring from NASA in January 2003. She was successful and respected throughout her career and always loved challenges. She considered her final position to be her most rewarding, working as a Benefits Officer and Retirement Specialist in NASA Human Resources at the Kennedy Space Center. Sharon was proud to have been honored in 1999 with the Silver Snoopy Award, considered the Astronauts’ personal achievement award. Upon retirement, she established her own consulting business, helping other government employees through their retirement process. Sharon also dedicated her life to volunteering, receiving many awards and acknowledgements.
She married Norman M. Lowry on October 31, 1962 in Seattle, WA, and was in their 56th year of marriage. One of her greatest achievements was that of an Army wife, often said to be the toughest job in the Army. As a Military spouse and her love of travel, she established homes in Germany (3-tours), Athens, Greece, and Hawaii. Additionally, there were many state side assignments in Washington, New Mexico, New York (3-tours), Alabama, Georgia, and finally retirement here in Florida.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Georgia Coleman. She is survived by her spouse Norman M. Lowry of Cocoa, FL, her children Teresa Lowry of Florida, Roger V. Lowry of Spokane, WA, Mary K. Lowe, of Merritt Island, FL., sister Barbara (James) Davis of Paso Robles, California, her eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Said Baidas, (Oncologist); Dr. Tomas Dvorak (Radiation Oncologist); the staff at UF Health Cancer Center in Orlando, FL.; Dr. Swathy Kolli, (Cardiologist) of Orlando Heart Center; Dr. Javed A. Syed (Nephrologist); and Dr. Faiaz M. Rasul, her personal physician of Port St. John.
Visitation will be Monday, April 30, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, Merritt Island, FL.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, FL., with interment at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Scottsmoor, FL.
