Andrea Renee Jung, lovingly known by many as "Bea," passed away peacefully at age 54 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born on July 4, 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona, Andrea's life was marked by kindness, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family, students, and every creature she met.
Andrea grew up in Scottsdale and graduated from Saguaro High School in 1988. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Arizona State University, and when she did not initially gain admission to ASU's teaching college, she persevered, taking night classes at Ottawa University to fulfill her calling as an education.
Andrea later made Gilbert, Arizona her home, where she and her husband, John Edward Jung, built a beautiful life raising their two daughters, Rylie Ellen Jung and Payton Renee Jung. A passionate and devoted teacher, Andrea taught for 24 years, beginning her career at Aire Libre Elementary School for three years before spending the rest of her teaching journey at Towne Meadows Elementary, where she taught until three months before her passing. Throughout her career, she taught kindergarten, second, third, fourth, and sixth grades, becoming a beloved teacher known for her warmth, patience, and joyful spirit. She had a way of making every student feel seen and cherished, and for many, she was simply "the favorite teacher."
Beyond the classroom, Andrea's creativity knew no bounds. She loved arts, crafts, and DIY projects, many of which became treasured memories shared with her daughters. Her love for animals filled her home and heart, caring for chickens, ducks, bunnies, dogs, cats, lizards, guinea pigs, tortoises, and more. Her laughter, humor, and nurturing nature were constants in the lives of those lucky enough to know her.
Andrea's faith was central to her life. She was a devout Christian who shared God's love in quiet, steadfast ways. Her strength, compassion, and generosity reflected her deep faith and guided her every day.
Andrea is survived by her husband, John, her daughters, Rylie and Payton, her sister, Cheryle Lee Eckhardt, and her brother, Troy Allen Wendell. She was preceded in death by her father, René Ephram Wendell, Jr., and her mother, Ellen Racer Wendell.
Andrea was a bright light and a source of joy, laughter, and unconditional love. She touched countless lives as a teacher, friend, sister, wide, and above all, as an incredible mother. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine through the many lives she influenced and the family she cherished so deeply.
A celebration of Andrea's life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm at Mission Community Church, 4450 E Elliot Rd, Gilbert, AZ, 85234. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to animal rescues and shelters of your choice.
