

Carlton was born in Passaic, NJ on October 18, 1929. He graduated from Madison High School, Madison, NJ and later joined the New Jersey Army National Guard, belonging to the 25th Division, “A” Battery, 64th Field Artillery unit. He served in the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1952.
Carlton returned home from Korea to his sweetheart, Janice Sironi, and they wed on July 16, 1955. Carlton and Janice loved the outdoors and over the years they enjoyed many vacations camping across the country with their four children. Two years after Janice’s passing in 1990, Carlton married Roberta McCann (nee Hallock) and they settled in Barryville, NY. Roberta passed away in May 2019.
Carlton retired in 1993 from a very successful career as a Fire Protection Engineer, spanning over 35 years.
Carlton was a Freemason of Caesarea Masonic Lodge No. 64 F&AM, Keyport NJ while living in Hazlet, NJ. He was also a BSA Troop 139 Scoutmaster, Hazlet, NJ for many years and was active with the BSA both in Hazlet, NJ and Barryville, NY. He was an active member and supporter of the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, Pond Eddy, NY prior to moving to Mesa, AZ.
Carlton always smiled and cared about others. He was very generous with his talents and donations of time and money to those in need. He did not follow others but led others to be their best. He did what he always felt was right, regardless of what others thought or said. He was easy to talk to and listened to those around him. He never spoke unkindly about others. His wisdom guided those who were troubled and he always provided what he could to help. He was always smiling and never complained about his own life’s trials. He always felt very blessed and shared his faith with all those around him. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he didn’t hesitate to tell anyone about their accomplishments.
Carlton is predeceased by his parents Lewis M Jessup, Sr and Viola M Jessup, his only sibling, Lewis Myron Jessup, Jr, his first wife, Janice Jessup (nee Sironi) and his second wife, Roberta Jessup (nee Hallock).
Carlton is survived by:
• Four children - Carlton Jessup, Jr (Scott, nee Jordan), Dwight Jessup (Terry, nee Mertsock), Susan Benedetti (Paul), and Allan Jessup (Margaret, nee Glacken)
• Eight Grandchildren - Adam Benedetti, Ryan Benedetti, Alicia Kimura (nee Benedetti), Steven Jessup, Katelyn Jessup, Katrina Lucas (nee Jessup), Christian Jessup, and Aidan Jessup
• Nine Great-grandchildren - Lill Benedetti, Fitz Benedetti, Connor Benedetti, Olivia Benedetti, Millie Kimura, Dixie Kimura, Tyler Jessup, Blake Jessup, Silas Lucas
A Celebration of Life will take place at Canyon Winds Senior Living Community, 7311 E. Oasis St, Mesa, AZ 85207 on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 2 PM. Carlton will be laid to rest in New Jersey next to Janice at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Rd, Kenilworth, NJ 07033 on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 10:30 AM.
