Dear Betty and Families, 
I will always remember our friendship with you an Charlie Mac.  I first met charlie when  we had moved next door to you in Mesa, Az.  He came and introduced himself and brought me peaches.  He invited me to his church, if I didn't  go anywhere else, which was the Mormon Church.  I later met Betty and we became friends.  After you moved to Tonto Basin, it wasn't long before we bought a place ,also.   Our month long trip to through the Southeastern states and to Key West, cemented our relationship.   Charlie shared his testimony with us in many ways and many times.  He never pressured me, But I was baptized shortly after the trip and have never looked back with any regrets.  Both you and Charlie have been a great inspiration to me.  
I have missed you all not being my neighbor for the past 1 1/2 years, but friends we will always be.  

I feel it was an honor and a privilage to have been able to help with Charlie Mac's care the last few months. Even as the end was near, he still shared the Gospel with anyone who would listen.  Though he could not speak, he sure used a lot of notebooks writing messages to to convey his thoughts and messages to all of us.  He was even teaching one lady the gospel.  

I know that our Heavenly Father has recieved a great missionary, a good comedian,and a good humanitarian.  Father has more work for Charlie Mac and I know he will be great at what the Father wants him to do.

We're so grateful for the 20 or so years we knew Charlie.  He was generous, kind, and giving to all.  He looked for the good in everyone he met. We are better people for having known him.

Uncle Charlie always had the biggest heart. I have so many wonderful memories with him, and I'll miss him so much. I can still hear his laugh and feel his bear hugs that he always gave. I just wish we could be there to give Aunt Betty our love and support. We may be far away but we're always here for you. Love you Aunt Betty

I have enjoyed reading the memories that others have written about Mr. Charlie (that is what I always called him).  I have never met anyone as genuine as Mr. Charile. He was the nicest, most giving man I have ever met. He had a joke for every occasion and every situation. I never heard him talk bad about anyone. The worst thing I ever heard him say was "old so-and-so was so slow it took him an hour and a half just to watch 60 min." 

Mr. Charlie should have received an award for the most fish caught in a lifetime. When fishing with him he would catch 7 or 8 to every one fish that I caught even though I was fishing right beside him. 

One of my favorite memories of Mr. Charlie: One day we were gassing up to go fishing and Mr. Charlie was talking to me about going on a mission.  He was telling me how important it was to share the Gospel if you love it and know it's true. The attendant at the gas station was reading a romance novel and Mr. Charlie asked her if she liked to read. She said she did. He then told her that he had a great book about Native Americans and asked her if she wanted a copy. She said she did. So he went out to the truck and brought her a copy The Book of Mormon. He was a great example to me of service and of sharing the Gospel.

"Hey, did you hear the one about...";

We are so sorry we can't be there with you to celebrate Mr. Charlie's life. We will miss you but you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Uncle Charlie was one of a kind and the greatest man I have ever known. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten. I'm just sorry that we can;t be there. Our prayers are with you Aunt Betty and we love you.

Charlie Mac! He made such an impression on me as a child. I couldn't wait to hear what new joke or story he was going to tell me. He treated me as if I were one of his own. I will still remember to this day when we went to visit them in Arizona and he took me frog hunting. He drug us through every canal and ditch he could find. We had a blast! We brought the numerous frogs back home early that morning. The plan was to cook some good frog legs but not before I threw a few in the pool to swim with. 

Such a great man. He will be truly missed until we meet again!

Charlie was unforgettable. I know Herm is up there helping him through and glad to see him once again. My condolences to Betty. Being a widow is not the easiest thing to do so rely on your family. Love to you all Sherrill Funk

Rest in Peace Charlie Mc, we will miss you, I have so many memories of Charlie that I will always treasure that stem from knowing him and Betty for 27 Years. We fished and hunted together over the years along with visits inbetween. We were neighbors in Mesa for a few years and then 8 or so years ago found ourselves in Tonto Basin almost neighbors.  The memory I have is a story that Charlie told many times (he loved to tell stories and usually you were always laughing) this story was he was loaning me a rifle for my first elk hunt, my husband Andy, Charlie and me took 3 to choose from up on picture mountain to try out, he also brought his 22 to play with, I chose one that didn't kick to bad, when we got back he handed me the rifle, i put it in the truck and bought shells the next day,never took it out of the bag, when we got up to 5b south for our hunt, I found that Charlie had handed me the 22, I could not kill an elk with a 22, I called him he was out of town, and I cried to him over the phone, he didn't get the message until after the hunt, needless to say one of our buddies brought 2 rifles and I used his, I did get my elk, but after that Charlie always ask me "wanna go shoot some elk with my 22?" He was a wonderful man and I love him and Betty with all my heart, my thoughts and Prayers are with Betty and the family. He will always have a special place in our hearts.
