

Charles Christopher McMickens, 71, of Gilbert, Ariz. died Friday, May 18, 2012 after a long hard battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Charley was loved by all who knew him, including his family, church members and many friends.
Charles is survived by his wife, Betty; 4 loving children, Dickie Futrell (Cecilia), Mike Jones, Sara Vance (Olin) and Holly Paulk; one foster son, Kevin Broom (Maria) and his five children, 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and 3 siblings, Calvin McMickens, Oliver McMickens and Chris Ann Torry.
Charles was born in Colfax, Louisiana. He moved to Ariz. in 1981. Charles was well known as a first to volunteer when help was needed and loved to entertain with a humorous story or event. Charles loved the outdoors, whether it was camping, hunting, fishing or just riding his quad.
Charles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was well known for his missionary services. He loved to share the gospel with everyone.
Charlie will be eternally remembered as an extraordinary and courageous man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son. Businessman, member of Kiwanis Club, Tonto Basic, Ariz. Scoutmaster, Past Post Commander of VFW Post 8807.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26 at 10:00a.m. at LDS Church (Elliot/Greenfield), 390 N Greenfield Rd., Gilbert, Ariz. Graveside services with Military Honors will be immediately after funeral services at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 6747 E Broadway Rd., Mesa, Ariz (Power/Broadway). A visitation will be Friday, May 25 from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, 6747 E Broadway Rd., Mesa, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund or Hospice of the Valley.
