Darlene Monaghan Camp passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 while under the care of Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Naylor, and four children: Mark Monaghan, Maureen Monaghan, Melodie Monaghan, and Mitchell Monaghan. Two of her sons preceded her: Michael Monaghan and Matthew Monaghan. Darlene has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Per Darlene's wishes, no service or viewing is taking place. A private and intimate celebratory picnic will take place at her home on February 11, 2017 from 12 PM to 2 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of the Valley or Boys Town of Nebraska.
For those of you who knew Darlene (Gemma, Mom, Momma, "D"), she had a passion for living a life of purpose, being of service, and walking in wonderment. Her passion was driven by her love of family, spirituality, nature, and her home and backyard. She traveled to Europe and Alaska and made many trips back and forth across the United States to share adventures with her sisters, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Professionally, Darlene started as a paralegal then built her own business of consulting for physician’s and attorney’s offices from the ground up. She went on to complete her baccalaureate degree at the young age of 70. The number of young women she employed and mentored into their own successes was significant to her. Darlene spent every free moment she could scrape together in nature, hiking, camping, touring, and exploring. She got no better satisfaction in the wild than in her own back yard, Saguaro Trace, as she named it. There is a plaque near the front door which reads:
This home sits on land once of the Apache
Then Sheepherders, Cattlemen, and Prospectors
SAGUARO-TRACE
Here a sanctuary exists for birds
And other small desert creatures
Rest in peace Mom. We will not miss you for we all know you and your love for us will always be here. See you soon. Love-n-stuff!
