Dena, Jewelene Packard, 73, of Mesa, AZ was taken to be with the Lord in heaven on October 26, 2020. After a beautiful life here on earth, she received the call, a kind of once in a lifetime opportunity that she couldn’t refuse. It entailed an engagement from which she will not be returning and included a reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time.
God saw fit to bestow her with a magnificent life, but as appointed to every man and woman, she had to give it back. Although this is hard for the rest of us left behind to endure, it is important to note that she was a beautiful woman in every sense, who touched our hearts and blessed each of our lives, and for this - we are all grateful.
When she first became ill, she made the decision to be joyful about all of the blessings in her life, rather than being sad about knowing it would eventually end. All of her stories of pain and happiness that she experienced throughout her lifetime have touched many people, especially because of the incredible joy she felt for living. Forever we will cherish the memories of her and her escapades that have become a special part of each and every one of us.
She was born February 19, 1947 in McNary, AZ to Fred “Blackie” and Dorothy Louise [Mathews] Searle. Dena grew up in the White Mountains where she graduated from Snowflake High School and later worked at the Snowflake Paper Mill.
Afterwards, she relocated to the Phoenix area and attended Lamson Business College. During this time, she met Theodore Louis Packard and after a brief courtship they were married on December 31, 1967. They spent the next 38 years together, until Ted’s passing on February 10, 2006. Before his passing, they worked together at Storage USA in Mesa, AZ as managers. Continuing without her beloved partner, Dena ended up retiring in 2013.
Dena was a very selfless person who loved her family and always put others before herself. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and fishing; and spent a lot of time watching the Hallmark channel, murder mysteries, and DIY home improvement programs. She enjoyed traveling to various places such as the White Mountains, the Mogollon Rim, and Nashville, TN.
She was very creative and loved designing arts and crafts for many holidays and family events. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy; her sister and spouse Judy and Bert Parkinson, her loving husband Theodore, and her granddaughter Haven.
Dena is survived by her daughters, Cindy and son-in-law Wade Walther, along with Brenda and son-in-law Joseph Colon Jr.; her stepson, T.J. Packard; grandchildren, Devon, Rebecca, Michael, Christopher, and Landon; great grandchildren, Zane and Aria; her sisters, Wanda Beasley and Marsha Searle as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be truly missed.
