He will be remembered as the kindest and most welcoming man to many and a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and life partner.
Dorn was born on November 28, 1946 to Pearl (Widman) and Alten Crandall in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Raised in North Dakota, Dorn spent many years as a rancher and fur buyer. He married LaVonne (Heley) Crandall on October 28, 1966. While they raised their three children Twila, Nadene and Dorn Ray Crandall Jr. “DJ”, Dorn continued his career as a rancher and fur buyer for the first part of his life and also took pride in raising purebred Arabian horses. As a family they enjoyed horseback trail riding and camping.
Throughout his life Dorn was a fighter, overcoming many health obstacles all the while still making time to dance and visit his family and friends. Dorn loved his country, as well as polka music, but those who knew him will never forget his love for westerns and rodeos on TV. He also enjoyed cooking, especially his signature tomato hot dish which everyone enjoyed.
He will be remembered by his life partner Mary Lou King, daughters Twila Thielman (Mike) and granddaughters Allison, Madison and Isabelle; Nadene Crandall (special friend Michael Castagna) and grandson Greyson; his sister Piquetta Heger (Tom); brothers DeVarr (Val) and Daro (Lois); and numerous nephews, nieces and of course his many cherished friends.
Dorn was preceded in death by his wife LaVonne (Heley) Crandall of 41 years; son Dorn Ray Crandall Jr. (DJ), two sisters Arlys and Janice and his parents Alten and Pearl Crandall.
