In the days preceding his death he was surrounded by his twin adult children, Brad (Tammy) Evans and Brian (Michele) Evans; their wives, his girlfriend, Bonnie Werpy-Rye, and an endless stream of family and friends wishing to spend “just a little more time” with him.
True to his character, Doug spent his last days on the phone making sure that as many people as he could heard from him one last time - usually to thank them for being a part of his life. Also true to his character, he couldn’t leave any of his affairs unattended so he dotted every I and crossed every t, exactly as he wanted them.
In addition to being a long-term State Farm agent serving the needs of his clientele, he leaves behind a legacy of service in his many communities.

He served on the board for the Salvation Army – Aurora Corps
He earned the “Man of the Year” distinction through his service as board member for the Community College of Aurora Foundation and established an endowed nursing scholarship
He was a founding member of the Sunland Springs Village Golf Community, and served on the HOA board for Sunland Springs Villages 2.
