Ed grew up in Fort Plain NY. He graduated in 1956 from Fort Plain Central School where he was an exceptional athlete in soccer and basketball. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Sours. After a brief stint working in the office at “The Beechnut” , he decided to join the Navy where he proudly served his country as an air traffic controller for 23 years. He was stationed at many places around the world. He retired from the Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1981.
Ed “retired” to Mesa where he proceeded to get a Masters degree in Business, worked for many years at Fluid Conditioning and taught Business and Marketing courses at Mesa Community College.
Wherever Ed lived he enjoyed the outdoors, whether skiing in the Northeast, hiking and camping in the Grand Canyon, golfing or hiking in the Superstition Mountains. He was an avid golfer and served as head of the golf association where he lived in Mesa.
While Ed was extremely proud of his many years of service to his country, he was also extremely proud of his family and always supported them in many ways. Ed was a big man , literally and figuratively. His booming voice will ring in the ears of all who knew him forever. Off color jokes ( of which he seemed to have an endless supply) were his specialty. He had a sharp, detailed memory for facts and dates and was rarely incorrect.
In addition to his parents, Ed is predeceased by his wife Linda, daughter-in-law Rhonda, brother Philip (Tim) and great-grandson Preston. He is survived by his son Edward Wayne (Nettie), grandsons Edward Nathaniel (Melissa Lombardo Lord), Nicholas Nelson (Melissa Ciconte), brother David (Linda Mirabelli) and great-grandchildren Rylee, Brady, Aubrey and Tatum
