Gale Allen “Al” Yates was born November 13, 1943 in Sugar Creek, MO to Leonard and Alberta Yates. He had 14 children in his family. Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17, and served aboard the USS Morton, USS Perkins, and USS Los Angeles. He met and married Margie Camacho while stationed in Long Beach, CA, and they had three children, Joe, Tina and Nita. The marriage was dissolved in 1994. He remarried in 2006 to Bettie Schragel, who preceded him (2010). He passed away very early in the morning on December 01, 2016 surrounded by an outpouring of love from his three children and his first grand-daughter, Jennica. He is survived by eight brothers and sisters, son Joseph (Sasha) Yates, daughters Christine (Juan) Martinez, and Anita (Jorge)Aguinaga, along with six grandchildren: Jennica and Cabriel Martinez, Drake and Andrew Small, Gigi Aguinaga and Jasper Yates. Al also work at various places including Douglas Aircraft, Forest Homes, WAFB Federal Credit Union, and retired from a full-time position at the Arizona Army National Guard and Department of Defense. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Tin Can Sailors. Many considered him quiet, but he was more contemplative, and he greatly loved his extensive family. He had many friends, but kept only a choice few close to his heart—and if you were fortunate enough to be one of them, you knew it! He loved God, fishing, singing and listening to music, a heart-felt laugh, dogs, and Mexican food. He also had an extensive collection of boots, hats, belts, eagles and lighters. Al will be profoundly missed, but watch for signs. Al wants you to know “All is well.”
