
George Pappas of Chandler, Arizona, joined up with his heavenly father on September 26, 2014 and left this world at the age of 91. George was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Arizona in the 1950’s. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice and daughter Gina. George is survived by his Sister Thelma and five children, Rod, Bonnie, Mike, David and Steven. George is also survived by his many grandchildren; Jenny, Lorna, Greg, Matthew, Christopher, Gina, Melissa, Kimberly, Derek, Jerica, Anthony, Sarah, Blake, Krista, Tyler and Alexis. George served in the army during World War II and was part of the Normandy invasion. He returned to the US and went to work for the local telephone service and eventually retired at Mountain Bell after 30 years of service. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus and spent many years assisting in their fund raising efforts. His favorite pastime was trout fishing in the local Arizona lakes. George was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, water ski and ride motorcycles. Rest in Peace George. We will miss you dearly. Visitation will be held, Thurs., Oct. 9th at 6:00pm, followed by Rosary Service beginning at 7:00pm at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Rd., Mesa. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2121 S. Rural Rd., Tempe. Internment with Military Honors following services will be held at 12:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
