Jerry was the dad all the neighborhood kids would ask to come out and play with us. He was that fun dad, that goofy dad, that dad that was always there and made our childhood whole. That never changed. Always staying a big kid himself, he was sure to be involved in some kind of mischief with the grandkids and he often got scolded for teaching them how to do spitballs or some other silly shenanigans. They loved him deeply.
He dedicated many years of his life to serving others. He served in the Army from March 1955 to March 1958 and continued his service in the Reserves until February 1963. Jerry's commitment to his country was admirable, and he spoke the language of duty and honor.
During his civilian life, Jerry worked as an office manager at FarVet Veterinarian Supply Co. He later transitioned to a different path and became a bus driver for the Apple Valley school district. The children he carried to school each day affectionately knew him as Mr. Jerry Bus driver.
In addition to his career, Jerry also served as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Apple Valley, MN, for many years.
Outside of work, Jerry found solace and joy in his hobbies. He loved traveling and exploring new places, but his heart truly belonged to the tranquility of the north woods of MN. He would often spend peaceful moments standing at the dock of his cabin, gazing at the lake, and finding serenity in nature's beauty.
Jerry's family meant the world to him. He was a great father to his children, James Orcutt and Jerilyn Jerpbak. He was also a wonderful grandfather to his four grandchildren, Julia and Jack Orcutt, and Evan and Keaton Jerpbak. Jerry's love extended to his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Brun-Orcutt, and his son-in-law, Jon Jerpbak.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Orcutt, who undoubtedly held a special place in his heart. Their love and partnership were a testament to enduring commitment.
Jerry Orcutt's legacy will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched. His kindness, humor, and dedication to service will be cherished by all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the impact he made on the world around him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mariposagardens.com for the Orcutt family.
